Painter Carlo CaselliCarlo Caselli, well known as "
ambassador of Lerici's beauties", really boasts of a
dense artistical activity.
He was defined by art critics, expressionist and
impressionist painter.
He was born in Turin and he was one of the De Francisco
teacher's student who comes from De Chirico School;
Caselli was one of the first artists formed in Turin,
during the Fifties, inside the "Soffitta Macabra", under
the guidance of Lorenzo Alessandri and hence "Arlecchini
Association", known for his freedom from all expression
tendencies.
Infact Caselli' s painting has always been far from
genre tendencies, but it has been imprinted of desire to
communicate and to communicate himself.
In Turin Caselli was part of " Cenacolo" and " Bianco e
Nero Group" , always busy in the circle of " Piemonte
Artistico e Culturale", becoming famous as one of the
artists in Turin and Piedmontese artistic scene.
He gave one-man and colletcive art exhibitions in many
cities and he attended many competitions, receving very
important awards and recognitions such as: in
1967 the gold medal at
40° " Salon de Peinture of Paris" and the first prize at
" Concorso d' Autunno Lancia"; in 1976 he won the first
prize of " Rassegna Nazionale d' Arte la Mola d'
Oro": in 1978 he also won the first prize " Mostra del
Ritratto" in Genoa and the first prize " Italia
Suggestiva".
In 1995 Mannesmann Society sponsored and distributed
more than 4000 calendars that represent all Caselli
works about Lerici, Golfo dei Poeti and Cinque Terre.
Since 1998 Carlo Caselli looks after the cover of the
volume created by " Premio Letterario Internazionale
Cittą di Lerici".
Carlo Caselli, by his inexhaustible desire to discover
and show himself, tests new painting techniques, new
subjects, new materials. In this way painting meets
sculpture for a figurative style made by colour mixture
on the canvans and by fusions of coloured glasses.

Oil, Oil on burlap
The traditional oils on
burlap marry the woven ones of the alcantara and the
velvet, to the search of new shadings and new
suggestions. The soft one and smooths down surface of
the alcantara always absorbs the color in a harmony of
tonality that exalts the suggested dominant ink from the
woven one, in transparency, to vanish and to lighten
this color. The woven one is great protagonist of the
picture, for donargli new life and new breaths. On the
velvet instead Cases play in contrast: not abandoning to
its motivatings force morbidezza that soffocherebbe the
lightness of the paintings in an indistinct gravity,
uses it in order to detach some subject from the strong
inks, in clean opposition to that one of the woven one.
Delineated figures are created very therefore, nearly
algid, in contrast with the tepore sense that inspires
the velvet.

Glasses, Paint on GlassesSince 1976 Carlo Caselli
has been falling in love with Liguria, so that he
decided to move to Lerici where he is still living and
working, getting inspiration for his art works from the
natural beauties and from the people of this sea village.
But Carlo Caselli, excited by an endless desire to
discover and show himself, is always looking for new
painting techniques, new themes, new materials. Giving
voice to his production and induced from a desire to
interweave a no ending dialog with the people, Caselli
opens in Lerici a standing exposition that becomes, in
litteral sense, a suggestive gallery, long and narrow
and made in stone.
Here, from time to time, new creations take life in
monographical exhibitions, one more suggestive and
evocative than the other.
In March 2000 Caselli moved the gallery in a larger
showroom always situated in Lerici historical centre,
that enable him a space for his studio: in this way
everybody who gets in to visit the gallery, can catch
Caselli at work. |
